Obituary for Zack Godwin

Zack Godwin was called home to be with his Lord on January 2, 2023. He was 75 years old. Funeral services will be held at Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, on Saturday, January 7, at 12:00pm, with family visitation two hours before the celebration of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Faulk Godwin & Gelette Godwin, his grandparents, Jimmie Sammons Godwin & Thomas Oline Godwin, Linnie Bernice Faulk & John B. Faulk.

Zack was born in Dothan, Alabama, on January 20, 1947, moving in early childhood to Birmingham, Alabama, where he graduated from Shades Valley High School. He went on to attend the University of Montevallo, until he was deployed to Vietnam. Following his tour of duty, Zack returned to college to earn his music and theatre degree. Later, he enrolled in Samford University to purse a second degree. There he met his Sunshine, Rosalyn, who became his bride in 1978.

Zack served in the United States Air Force from 1969 - 1973 and served with honor at Kesseler Air Force Base, Tyndall Air Force Base , Maxwell Air Force Base, in Thailand at NKP, and in Viet Nam at DaNang and Tan Son Nhut.

During his life he was a Minister of Music and Minister of Outreach for Helena Baptist Church, Parker Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Montevallo, Bethlehem East Baptist Church, and Woodley East Baptist Church. Zack lived out his love of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through endless service and song. He loved deeply and hugged tightly.

Zack is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosalyn Ezell Godwin, his sons Jonathan Ezell Godwin (Ashley) James Brian Freeman (Brooke) grandchildren Christian Freeman, Samantha Freeman, Aubrey Godwin, and Miles Godwin, as well as his mother-in-law, Jimmie Robinson Ezell.

Pallbearers will be Arnold Fuller, Jerry Short, Randy Stiff, Sidney Chancellor, Lance Maddox, and Brian Gjesvold.
