Obituary for Wanda Jean (Bennett) Mills

Wanda Jean Bennett Mills, 73, of Wetumpka passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023 in Montgomery after a brief, but fierce battle with cancer.

Born in Evergreen, Alabama in 1950, Wanda was the fifth daughter of Guy Bennett and Hazel Pate Bennett Culp. She moved to Montgomery as a young adult and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She was employed by the State of Alabama, Department of Revenue for 33 years, where her meticulous organizational skills and attention to detail were called upon from every corner of the state. Wanda later moved to the Wetumpka area, where she was a proud member of her beloved church, Cain’s Chapel in Holtville. Wanda shared her faith by devoting time and energy to shopping and cooking for others and crocheting with the Prayer Shawl Ministry of her Church. She was always involved in her community and very few known needs were left unassisted or unfulfilled.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Rennie. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennie and Mike Jensen, and grandson, Ben, of Washington, DC. Surviving sisters and brother-in-law are Brenda Lynn of Pensacola, FL, Barbara Faye and David Maddox of Fairfield Bay, AR, and Yvonne Bennett of McKenzie, AL. Wanda cherished a host of nieces and nephews and their families.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sherry Thomas and Theresia Musgrave, mother-in-law, Annie Lee Bush Mills, father-in-law, Reynolds Clayton Mills, Sr., and brother-in-law, Hobbie Mills.

Pallbearers will be Grady McClain, Jeremy McClain, Garrett McClain, Sandy Lynn, Ricky Crowe, Manny Orozco, and Joshua Jackson (Honorary).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches or Cain’s Chapel Church.

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Cain’s Chapel in Holtville. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Stringfellow officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery.

Her family would like to convey their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Baptist Medical Center East for their professionalism, dedication, and compassion.
