Obituary for Sandra Robinson McLendon

Sandra Robinson McLendon, loving mother, grandmother and friend passed away August 25, 2022, at the age of 78 in Tallassee, Alabama.

Sandra was born March 10, 1944, in Wetumpka, Alabama to Hugh C. and Ima Jean Robinson. After college Sandra moved to Jackson, Al where she worked for Alabama Power Company. She later returned to her hometown of Wetumpka where she began her career with the Department of Human Resources and retired after 33 years. During her time at DHR Sandra enjoyed working with foster children and foster parents. She would not hesitate to bring a child home that had been removed from home during the night. Sandra knew the name of every child in foster care, their age, and the foster parents’ names. She was always being recognized out in public by a child who had been in foster care. Sandra’s love for children was seen during Christmas time when she would wish children a merry Christmas as they drove through the lighted driveway at her home. At times, she would dress up as Mrs. Claus. After Sandra retired in 2008, she began feeding every animal that showed up at her door, sometimes a whole family of racoons could be seen waiting for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Shortly after retirement Sandra was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she was able to care for herself for several years before moving into The Harbor at Hickory Hill. She enjoyed the entertainment with her new friends and was often the entertainment when the music came on.

She is survived by her mother, Jean Robinson; her brother, John Robinson; her daughter, Stacey Price (Grady Hicks); her son, Jarrett McLendon (Cynthia Nelson); grandchildren, Lane Price (Ashley), Chase Price (Amber), and Steele McLendon; great grandchildren, Khloe and Kori Price. She is preceded in death by her father, Hugh C. Robinson.

A Memorial service will be held Sunday, August 28, 2022, at three o’clock in the afternoon at Gassett Funeral Home.

In remembrance of Sandra’s life, the family ask that any charitable donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or to Ivy Closet, 452 Doe Lane, Wetumpka, Al, 36093.
