Obituary for Robert Louis Hooks

Our Dad, Robert Louis Hooks, known to all as “Buddy”, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the age of 85. Buddy died peacefully in his sleep. He will be greatly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Buddy was born the second son of seven children in Port Barre, Louisiana on August 8, 1937, to Asa and Jacqueline Hooks. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Davy Lee Knight, Paul Billy Ray Hooks, John Ernest Hooks and Danny Hooks. He is survived by his sisters Shirley Ann (Hooks) Chambliss and Sadie Margaret (Hooks) Carnes Coarsey. Buddy is also survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Baham Hooks; sons Jeff and Todd (Tammy) Hooks, Daughter-In-Law Marlene Melancon Hooks; grandchildren Dustin (Falon) Hooks and Aaron (Summer) Hooks, Meagan Eiseman and great-grandchildren Sophie, Rhett, Ollie and Leighton Hooks.

Buddy lived a full life, serving 20 years in the United States Air Force as a Pole-climbing instructor and Antenna Maintenance Master retiring in 1975 as a Technical Sergeant at Bergstrom Air Force base in Austin Texas. He then moved into the Oil field as a Drilling Fluid Engineer working on both land-based and off-shore rigs. It was on an off-shore oil rig where Buddy experienced a life-changing injury, permanently disabling him. Buddy loved God, his family and his country in that order. He was a long time Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Literally, to his last day he asked anyone new he met if they went to church and if not, invited them to his church. Buddy loved to make people laugh and was always ready to use the corniest jokes he could conjure up to get a smile.

A visitation for Buddy is planned for Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 10 am to 11 am., followed by a Memorial service at 11:00 am. We would love for you to come and honor his life at Dalraida Baptist Church located at 3838 Wares Ferry Rd, Montgomery, AL.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Buddy’s love of God and his church are welcome to make donations to Dalraida Baptist Church (https://dalraidabaptist.com)
