Obituary for Pamela J. Barrett Scanlon

Pamela J. Barrett Scanlon, 53, died November 11th, 2023, at her home in Pike Road Alabama. A celebration of life for Pam will be held on Saturday January 13 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Gassett Funeral Home located in Wetumpka, Alabama.

Pam was born on November 24, 1969, in Albuquerque New Mexico to Willard and Virginia Jones. The family moved to Hamilton Alabama where she graduated High School. She attended Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa and later earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Alabama.

Pam started her career in social work as an activity director at a nursing home facility in Tuscaloosa. She later accepted a position to work with the State of Alabama Department of Public health within the Division of TB Control. She married and had two children. She moved to Montgomery in 2009 to serve as Director, Division of TB Control. She was closely involved with the National TB Controllers’ Association and the Southeastern National TB Center. Pam was a licensed social worker and a Certified Public Manager (CPM). Pam retired from the State Department of Public Health after serving 25 years.

Pam was passionate about her job, and all the people she came in contact with throughout her career, colleagues as well as patients.

Pam is survived by her husband Raymond Scanlon Jr., son Tanner Barrett, daughter Brooke Barrett, and brother Ryan Jones.
