Obituary for Mrs. Soultana Georges Burrell

Soultana Georges Burrell was called home to be with the lord God early Friday February 11th 2023. Soula as she liked to be called was 76 years old.

Funeral services will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Montgomery, Alabama, on Friday February 24th, at 10:00 am, with Fr. Paul Lundberg officiating.

Soula was preceded in death by her parents, George Theofanidis and Parthena Theofanidou. Soula was an only child as her father was killed during the Greek Civil War in 1946. Soula was born in Kilkis in northern Greece, on November 7th 1946. Soula her mother, grandmother and aunt Marianthi moved to Athens when she was 15 years old. She attended number 12 Girls High School. Her aunt Marianthi married her uncle Bill, an American serviceman and they sponsored Soula to come to the USA. Soula soon joined the U.S. Air Force and obtained U.S. Citizenship. She became a Supply NCO obtaining the position of Supply Management Superintendent. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Maryland and a Master Degree in Human Resources Management from Troy University. She served at many different Air Force Bases in the U.S. and in Europe, even being stationed in Athens at Hellenicon Air Base. Soula was awarded The AF Meritorious Service medal three times, the AF Commendation Medal twice, the AF Outstanding Unit Award twice, the AF Organizational Excellence Award five times, The AF Good Conduct Medal seven times, the National Defense Service Medal with Service Star, the AF Overseas long tour Award three times, the AF Overseas short tour Award, The AF Longevity Service Award five times, the NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon twice, and the AF Training Ribbon. Soula retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1998 with 26 years and four months of service. She earned the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, SMSgt, (E-8), only 2% earn this grade. She was very proud of her service and being and American Citizen. She loved many, made thousands of friends, and was the love of his life for her husband William.
