Obituary for Louise (Herndon) Lambert

Lambert, Louise (Herndon), age 94, of Wetumpka, Alabama, passed away Sunday, at home, September 18, 2022. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Cursillo, Daughters of the King, Bible Study, Aid to Inmate Mothers, Women that Care, Sunday School and People that Care.

If you looked at Louise’s calendar you would see lunches with dear friends; meeting with her Cursillo reunion group; a meal shared at the church soup kitchen; a trip to Alaska, Arizona, the Florida Keys or anywhere else you could drive a camper and spend time with great friends; a drop-off at the Food Pantry or People that Care; a date with friends or family to eat oysters and play games; a meeting of her ecumenical book club to learn about the religions of the world; a trip with girlfriends or daughters; bible study; the birthdays of friends and families; the Auburn football schedule; a trip to Texas to see family or to Dadeville, Birmingham, Auburn, Charleston, England, New Orleans or Biloxi; and a weekend convocation with the Daughters of the King, etc.

If you showed up at the house, you could expect to see a cooking lesson on biscuit or chicken and dumpling making with grandchildren, a Laotian refugee family that needed somewhere to live, a young co-worker that recently divorced and needed a place to live while she gets on her feet, a friend at work that she is helping apply for grants to go back to school, a container of pop tops and stamps that she collected for a friend that donates them to charity, an inmate that she has ministered to and befriended for years that now is paroled and needs a place to stay, a juvenile that is trying to get his life together and needs a place to stay, grandchildren playing, granddaughters getting ready for the prom with their friends, family eating and enjoying being together, Louise dressed and looking beautiful, her Bible, devotional and journal by her table, a gardening project in progress, hummingbirds at the feeders and ALWAYS Sunny in her lap.

Louise was a volunteer, confidant, and friend to many. She believed life was a precious gift from God and she used every moment, person, experience and opportunity to the fullest, trusting that God was using her for His purpose. She never quit or gave up in the face of what others might consider hard times or adversity, as they were opportunities for growth and faith. She believed in second chances and lived her life helping others make the most of theirs. She followed Jesus and his teachings and actively fed the hungry, clothed the poor, visited the imprisoned and loved her neighbor, with the understanding that we are all neighbors.

Louise was a much-loved wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother and she loved her family and delighted in time spent with them. Louise loved life and honored God with every moment he gave her by giving it her all, loving all, sharing it all and being thankful.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston Anderson Herndon, Sr. and Mary Jane Hawk, her sister and 4 brothers. Also preceded in death by her first love, James Michael Powers of Carrollton, Georgia, husband of 20 years; and second love, Ealon M. Lambert of Opelika, Alabama, husband of 42 years. She is survived by her much-loved lap companion Sunny; daughters Brenda Lambert, Teresa Powers Rachal (Robert P. Rachal, deceased), Janie Powers Light, Marcia Lambert Washburn (Henry Roy Washburn III), and Suellen Powers Lambert Young (Lane Young). Louise is grandmother to Teresa Villareal, Joseph L. Jordan III (deceased), James M. Light (deceased), Jeffrey N. Light, Aimee Washburn Comer, Henry Roy Washburn IV, Brett Louise Young, Abigail M. Young Shaw and Peter Zifan Wang; great-grandmother to Nicole Montgomery, Joseph Jordan IV, Madison Light, Savannah Light, Austin Light, Nolan Light, Reese Louise Light, Madison Comer, Lucy Comer, Rod Reedy, Inge C. Washburn, Marcia B. Washburn, Susanna Washburn, Henry Roy Washburn V, Joshua Washburn, Daniel Washburn, Hugo Washburn, Hannah Washburn and Heidi Washburn and great-great-grandmother to Kayla and Lily Montgomery, Norway and Amy Jordan, and Halle Reedy.

She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Rector’s Discretionary Fund for helping those in need. Trinity Episcopal Church, 5375 U.S. Highway 231, Wetumpka, AL 36092.
