Obituary for John Tyler Givens

GIVENS, John Tyler, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the age of 76.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Redland Baptist church with Bro. Bryce Cox officiating. Burial will be at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Gassett Funeral Home of Wetumpka directing.

John is preceded in death by his first wife Margie Hayes Givens; sons Johnny Ray Givens, Scott Jason Givens; and granddaughter Megan Leigh Cook. He is survived by his wife Rhonda Sanders Givens; daughter Karen (Jerry) Cook; bonus daughter Bridget Ballentine (Marcus Jennings); daughter-in-law Amanda Givens; grandchildren Catrina Cook (David Beck), Kelsey (Dakota) Moody, Morgan Gensel; great-grandchildren Brooklyn Beck, Natalie Moody, and Alexander Gensel.

John worked for Montgomery Fire Department from 1967 to 1987, retiring as a Lieutenant. John also owned Independent Glass for over 30 years. But he said his greatest accomplishment was accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. John was a good and faithful servant to God and an amazing inspiration to others.

Active pallbearers will be Kenny Harris, Jay Dixon, Joel Murphy, Richard “Marty” Marts, John Stiebens, and Curt Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Wilson, Jeff Tanner, Tony Abbott, and The Montgomery Fire Department.

He is a Charter member of Redland Baptist Church
