Obituary for John Garvie Hobbs Jr.

After a hard fought battle, John Garvie Hobbs Jr (88) of Montgomery, Alabama retired to his heavenly home on Sunday February 19, 2023.

John is survived by his loving children Rosemary Travis (Terry) and Greg Hobbs (Theresa).
His much loved grandchildren Daniel McGraw, Elise Lyles (Matt), Jordan Travis (Meagan),
Hilary Cobian (Javier), Cady Baker (Brad) and Jake Hobbs and his adored great grandchildren Alexandria Lyles, Juliana Lyles, Benton Travis, Fox Hinton, Taya Travis, Gabriel Lyles, Gatlin Travis and Vivian Cobian and countless loved nieces and nephews.

John led a life of service to his family and community retiring from The Montgomery Fire Department, Montgomery County Board of Education and Hooper Academy. He was a long time active member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church. He coached countless softball, baseball, football and basketball teams within both youth and adult leagues.

John cherished his wife Nell for over 62 years and grieved for her until his passing. He was a “handy man” extraordinair and could eventually fix or repair almost anything. He loved being around people and fancied himself quite the comic. John was a fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and loved his Alabama Crimson Tide, rarely did you see him not wearing some type of Tide apparel.

Although Pop (John) will be greatly missed his family rejoices in the fact he is again whole, healthy and reunited with his Nanny.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel.
