Obituary for James Merrill Carpenter

James Merrill Carpenter
December 23, 1945 - November 3, 2022

Mr. Carpenter age 76 passed away peacefully at his home in Mansfield, PA on the morning of 11/3/2022 as a result of a long struggle brought on by an automobile accident. James was the third oldest child of eight born to Emory and Evelyn Carpenter. He was born in Repton (Conecuh County,) Alabama.

James was preceded in death by his parents Emory and Evelyn Carpenter, daughter Tanya Sue Carpenter, sisters Jean Baas and Barbara Strichik, brothers Winston Carpenter and Ronnie Carpenter.

He is survived by his daughter Miranda Kurzejewski (Jeff) grandson Cade and granddaughter Reagan. Siblings Patricia Hall (Roger), Jackie Greene (Mike), Mike Carpenter, Muffy Metts (Howard, deceased). As well as a host of nieces and nephews.

James attended and graduated from Chipley High School, Chipley, FL in 1964. The family moved from Chipley to Wetumpka, AL in 1965. James had 35 years and a very successful career with the Army Corps of Engineers. After retiring from the Army Corps of Engineers he worked for URS, Blue Dot and Costsy Energy. He was also a member of the Harley Davidson Ironheads. He loved and cherished all of his family deeply. He had many work related and other friends that he loved and they loved him. James never met a stranger.

There will be a committal service December 28th at 3:00 pm. Santuck Baptist Church Cemetery for James and Ronnie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in honor of his late brother in law Howard Metts to the ALS Association Alabama Chapter at 300 Cahaba Park Circle, Ste 209, Birmingham, AL 35242 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
