Obituary for Iris Elaine McGowin Weldon

WELDON, Iris Elaine McGowin, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 at home. A sweet loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and caring friend.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Archie Hooper, IV officiating. Burial will be at Shephard Cemetery with Gassett Funeral Home of Wetumpka directing,

She had many jobs, Whitfield Pickle Company, Hollywood Candy Company, Grocery Store Cashier, and Avon Sales Representative for almost 50 years. She was a wonderful cook and always wanted family and friends to have plenty to eat.

She is preceded in death by her father John Thomas McGowin; mother Jessie Lee White McGowin; Infant sister Mary Ann McGowin; husband John Lewis Weldon; son Roger Weldon; daughter Sharon Hooper; and Infant grandson Joseph Weldon Hooper.

She is survived by her daughter Teresa Weldon Robbins (Haywood); grandchildren Brent Robbins (Stephanie), Archie Hooper, IV (Melissa), Kevin Robbins, Lydia Summerford (Ben), Jessie Snellgrove (Jason), Julie Sprayberry (Max), Allison Jesse (William), Wesley Weldon; sister Sarah Oliver; special nephew Eric Oliver; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the special sitters & friends, Denise Smith and Peggy White and also a special thank you to the staff at Ivy Creek Hospice for their caring and kindness.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Robbins, Kevin Robbins, Barry Smith, Ben Summerford, Wes Weldon, Daniel Weldon, Archie Hooper V, and Elijah Hooper. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Oliver, Lee Smith, Clint Weldon, Reginald Gable, Jimmy Mask, Roger Collins, Timothy Brown, Anthony Brown, Jamie Brown, Mack Weldon, Byron Gable, and James Patterson.
