George H. Spigner

On the evening February 18, 2022, George passed away after a brief illness in Montgomery, Alabama at the age of 90. He was born November 12, 1931, to George Washington and Velma (Hesler) Spigner in Vida, Alabama. He was a resident of Montgomery, AL for almost forty-three years.

George is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Glenda Joyzelle (Futral) Spigner; his son LaBaris "Barcy" (Dale) Spigner of Winston-Salem, NC; his daughter Kalicia Spigner Sides of Montgomery, AL; four grandchildren, Leyton, Blayne, and Cordin Spigner and Skylar Sides; one great-grandson, Waylon Spigner; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews and of great-nieces and nephews.

George was predeceased by his parents; two children, George H. Spigner, Jr. and Veronica Spigner; and one brother, Billy Eugene Spigner.

George was an ardent patriot and served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. After his time in the Air Force, he went on to work for the Central Intelligence Agency for 27 years. He retired in 1979 and brought his family to Alabama. He worked for Brown Printing Company for many years before retiring again only to work at Bama Lanes. He was an avid bowler and is in the Central Alabama Association Hall of Fame. When he was 70 years old, he started working in lawn care and didn't stop until he was 88. These few words cannot capture the man, husband, or father he was during his time here, but are instead only a snapshot.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 28, 2022 at 10:45 a.m. with the funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Jones Chapel of First Assembly of God with Reverend Gregory D. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
