Obituary for Geneva (Griggs) Messer
Mrs. Geneva Griggs Messer, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born July 20, 1929 in Tallassee, Alabama to Mr. Henry and Mrs. Lucille Yates Griggs.
Mrs. Messer worked for many years at Scroggins Furniture Store and later went to work for Neptune Water Meter Company, from which she retired in 1995 after 23 years.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and loved baking cakes. Her family always looked forward to her dressing and the big meals during the holidays. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Charles on group bus trips after their retirement.
Mrs. Messer is survived by her husband of 71 years, Mr. Charles Messer; daughters, Angela Caldwell (Lewis); Monica Messer; and Sally Messer; sister, Virginia Dantro; grandchildren, Andrew Caldwell (Molly); Elizabeth Alldredge (Zac); great-grandson, Parker Alldredge; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Griggs; brother, Howard Griggs; sister, Nellie Dean Alexander.
A graveside service and burial will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 10:00 am at Rose Hill Cemetery, 1089 N. Ann Avenue, Tallassee, AL with Dr. Billy Doyle Gaither and Rev. Jay Woodall officiating.
The family would like to especially thank her caregivers, Lois Mallard and Katrina Ross; Staci Kendrick, Miriam Smith and the staff of Community Hospice Care for their wonderful care and support the past year.
