Obituary for Fred David Solomon

Fred David Solomon, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 12th, 2022. Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Leigh Curtis Solomon; daughter, Andrea (Johnny) Solomon Celka; son, Charles (Deborah) Morton Solomon; grand-daughters, Alexandra Celka and Olivia Celka; sister, Ruth Solomon Silverman; nephews, Michael Silverman and Matthew Silverman; nieces Tobey (Chris) Bartel and Rachel (Joey) Kave; and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his father Morton Gabriel Solomon and mother Adele Dorfman Solomon.

Fred was born March 9th, 1947, in Far Rockaway, New York. He grew up in Thomasville, Alabama, where he loved fishing with his dad and watching the Crimson Tide play football. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in business administration and had a long and varied career. His passion was flying, and he loved his time as a pilot. He was an entrepreneur; from sewing factories to convenience stores (and everything in between), ever-present were his tireless work ethic and commitment to success. He loved the outdoors and took pride in creating beautiful spaces for his family. He was an avid animal lover and advocate and contributed generously to animal rescue efforts.

Fred was many things to many people. To his colleagues and business associates, he was tough but fair, firm but generous, challenging but encouraging. To his family and friends, he was funny, loyal, genuine, and steadfast. He was someone on whom we could always rely, particularly in the toughest of times, and someone we always knew was in our corner. He was a fighter; sometimes he fought with us, but always he fought for us. Passive, easy, and agreeable he was not; but he was honest, he did what he believed was right, and he approached every situation with passion and intensity. He would have us all know that he did it his way.

A memorial service will be held at Gassett Funeral Home in Wetumpka, Alabama on Sunday, September 25th, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Montgomery Humane Society.
